Activity Overview
Join other scout groups from across the Hunter Valley District camping at Gundy Recreation Grounds for the Upper Hunter Founders Day celebrations which occur on Saturday 2pm-5:30pm. As we celebrate the common birthday of Lord and Lady Baden-Powell, the founders of the worldwide Scout and Guide movements. Scone Scouts and Venturers arrive at camp on Friday night. Scone Cubs and families arrive Saturday morning.
Where: Gundy Recreation Ground, behind the Linga Longa Inn, turn down Church street after the Gundy General Store.
At other times we will be doing activities at Pages River, Gundy Recreation Grounds and Gundy Township.
Cost: $25 payable to 2nd Thornton Scout Group. Direct deposit, with name, is preferred payment method.
Subsidised by Upper Hunter Shire Council, Cultural Activity Grant. We will be stopping to buy lunch on the way home. Please pack money for this.
Wear: uniform to/from camp.
Catering: is organised centrally by our Patrol Leaders. Please ensure you have had tea on Friday before we leave!
Accommodation: is in our group's tents. Venturers may BYO tents
Sleeping: need to bring own sleeping bag and mat/stretcher
Toilets: there are toilets/showers at Gundy Recreation Area
Parents: if you are interested in camping the weekend with us as a parent helper - would love to hear from you. Will need form/money from each person youth/adult camping. You will need to have registered via ScoutHub as an adult helper re valid Working With Children Check. See Quill for details.
Preparation
- Scouts should be able to pack own bag and sleep in a tent.
Clothing & Equipment
normal camp gear, including mess kit and tea towel, day pack, enclosed shoes (not crocs!), clothes to play land activities in
can be very hot - sunscreen, hat, water bottle, can rain - raincoat
can be cool at night - come prepared
might swim in Pages River - swimmers, old shoes for in water, towel etc
